About your speech pathologist
Hi! I'm Jo, the Director of Early Nurture Therapies and a Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist (CPSP), as well as a member of Speech Pathology Australia.
Based on the Northern Gold Coast, I offer mobile services to families and children within a 30-minute radius of Ormeau, 4208.
I have years of experience working with children with speech and language delays, hearing and vision impairments, complex communication needs, and neurodevelopmental conditions, including Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Global Developmental Delay, Dravet Syndrome, and Rett Syndrome.
My experience includes working in both public and private sectors, providing in-home therapy and support for parents and children, supporting kindergartens in children's readiness for Prep, and within the Department of Education supporting the inclusion of children with communication challenges in classrooms.
I’ve always had a passion for working with children! Throughout my career, I’ve enjoyed roles as an early childhood educator and a kindergarten assistant teacher.
I am also a parent of two children, and I deeply understand the challenges and joys that come with raising kids. This personal experience allows me to connect with both parents and children in a meaningful way, offering support that’s not only professional but also empathetic and relatable.
I completed a Bachelor of Applied Linguistics from the Australian National University in 2009, followed by a Masters in Speech Pathology from The University of Queensland in 2015. Between my studies, I travelled extensively, gaining valuable insights into diverse cultures and ways of life. I have also completed additional training in:• Key Word Signing• PROMPT• Hanen ‘It Takes Two to Talk’• DIR Floortime®• Pragmatically Organised Dynamic Displays (PODD)• Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)
Allied Health Assistants
We have allied health assistants available who support your child to practise their communication skills in between therapy sessions with the speech pathologist.
Why do we only provide mobile services?
Our core value is to ensure that therapy is functional and meaningful to the child and to the child's family. It is important to us that therapy is completed in meaningful environments, where skills can be generalised to real life tasks. This means that, unlike traditional therapy in a clinic room, we provide therapy in the home and in the child’s kindergarten and school environments.
Together, we strive to create a nurturing and supportive environment for children to develop into great communicators. By becoming effective communicators, children can be empowered, more connected to others, share their gifts and skills, and reach their full potential.
